Wyre Forest (18 Feb) – Probable Parrot Crossbill female at SO746791. From log pile at SO746788 take left hand track down through the wire gates, over stream, then half way along the track up the hill is where the bird was feeding with c10 Common Crossbills. It was only feeding on pine, and would fly in, cut a cone off with its bill, then fly off and pin the cone to the branch to eat. It was attacking the Commons quite viciously and after about 40 mins showing on/off (11.30-12.10), it flew off towards the stream. The general Crossbill flock is very mobile (about 60 birds) so it could be anywhere. Also 3 Two-barred Crossbills still present (2m). Wellies needed, parking at SO743784 (Craig Reed)
