Candles Landfill, SW Telford (30 Nov) – Adult Caspian Gull, 11 Yellow-legged Gulls (4 adults, 2 near-adults, 2 3rd-winters, 2 2nd-winters & a 1st-winter), 3,000+ Lesser Black-backs. Nearby, the extensive riverside floods between Leighton and Buildwas were being used by the gulls to bathe, and as well as a couple of the same Yellow-legged Gulls, there were also 2 (not-so-) Common Gulls down there (Tom Lowe)

Ludlow (28 Nov) – 2 Waxwings outside Tuffins at 3p.m. Just after you turn into Foldgate Lane there are several small rowan trees on your left – birds feeding here and perching in the large trees on the right. Still lots of pink berries around (Chris Bateman)

Shrewsbury (28 Nov) –  on the old A5 (now the B4380) just next to the roundabout junction with the A458 to Bridgnorth, a flock of c30 Waxwings perched in a tree, then flew off to the north (Martin)

Ludlow (28 Nov) – 15 Waxwings in the Castleford Road/Keepside Close area for about 30 minutes early afternoon – flew off high to the south. Then at around 3.15 about 40 Waxwings flew over the area heading east (Matt Schofield)

Cound (27 Nov) – on the floods at Coundlane there is a huge flock of 500+ lapwing with several golden plover (Helen Griffiths)

Venus Pool (27 Nov) – common scoter still present on the fishing pool next to Venus Pool at 3pm. Also at VP, 32 common snipe outside the North (Members’) hide (Helen Griffiths)

Venus Pool (27 Nov) – Female Common Scoter on the fishing pool by Venus Pool, in the afternoon. Still present at 1.10pm. It was quite anxious and flighty so may not stick around too long. Also, a male Merlin was hunting over the fields (Martyn Owen)

There were 5 adult and a 3rd-winter Yellow-legged Gulls amongst the 3,200 Lesser Black-backs, and the Black-necked Grebe was showing fairly well towards the shallow end with 4 Little Grebe. Bucknell (13 Nov) – 3 Hawfinch flew low over Weston Road at 11am. Appeared to have been associated with large flock of thrushes and Bullfinch feeding on berries and hips along railway embankments. Also single Waxwing seen and heard flying low over Meole Crescent this afternoon at 1.30pm. Headed towards church (Steve Wilson)

Ours is the last house and there’s room for a couple of cars to park by the cowshed on the way in. SJ518051. Venus Pool (12 April) – Osprey at 4.30pm, soaring over VP. It gained height and glided northwards. (3 buzzards were also soaring overhead) (Jim Almond & Paul Bell) 2 pairs of LRP, one common sandpiper, a few sand martin through, a yellow wagtail over and a male common redstart on the fence line by the main hide (Martyn Owen) Redshank heard from car park on arrival but not seen. Similarly Yellow Wagtail heard but not seen. 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Snipe, 2 Mistle Thrush, Jay, female Blackcap seen plus male in song, 3 Willow Warblers in song from Causeway. Park in the layby at the common, walk across the common to the footpath above the river, turn left, but before you reach the ravine on the right – the bird was showing here. There are a few young Yew trees and a some holly bushes, the crest was feeding in the large Beech trees below the footpath (Andy Latham)

Priorslee Flash (2 Jan) – Tundra Bean Goose still with Greylag in the morning (Jim Almond)

Cound area, nr S’bury (2 Jan) – 5 Whooper Swans still in field near Cound by A458 with Mute Swans.

Whixall Floods (2 Jan) – 100+ Wigeon, c500 Canada Geese, c200 Lapwing (another c650 on field adjacent to Prees Branch canal), c50 Common Teal, 1 Mute Swan (Howard Prince)

Prees Heath Common (1 & 2 Jan) No sign of the Golden Plover or Lapwing. Female Sparrowhawk seen to catch a Starling (Howard Prince)

Melverley Green (1 Jan) – 35 Whooper Swans, 4 Mute Swans, 9 Curlew and 41 Lapwing (Andy & John Morris)

Whixall Moss (1 Jan) – Adult male Hen Harrier late afternoon and Short eared Owl at 4.55pm on the moss near the rear of Furbers (Jim A & Yvonne C)

Wood Lane (1 Jan) – Female Sparrowhawk (flushed with prey, which from examination of plucked feathers has been identified by Alan as another Sparrowhawk), 16 Shelduck, Water Rail (in front of first hide), 1 Raven, 1 Green Woodpecker (scarce here recently), 6 Common Snipe, c350 Lapwing and 6 Lesser Redpoll (Howard P & Alan H)

Venus Pool (1 Jan) – 4 Whooper Swans (flew off at 8am and two flew over at 9am), drake Pintail and Green Sandpiper (Jim A & Yvonne C)

Cound area, nr S’bury (1 Jan) – 9 Whooper Swans in field near Cound by A458 with 33 Mute Swans, Also Kingfisher by the white bridge by Cound tennis court (Helen Griffiths)
