The Buttery, nr Kynnersley SJ687166 (18 Dec) – 2 Whooper Swans on the farm reservoir with flock of 29 Mute Swans also 9 Wigeon, 151 Mallard and 14 Canada Geese. Access is from the Preston-on-Wealdmoors to Kynnersley road park at the end of The Dukes Drive by the first house as you enter the Kynnersley village. Walk 3/4 mile down the lane until you come to a lane to the farm on your left. Take the left and the reservoir is a few yards on the left. There was also a flock of 12 Bullfinch where you park at the end of the lane (Martin Grant)

Wall Farm, Kynnersley (28 October) – Great Grey Shrike at 12.30pm visible from the hide (John Porter. Still present at 3pm, viewed from the Cherrington road above the wetland looking over the freshly seeded field with 2 new five bar gates. The views are distant; seen sitting up on top of the hedgerow bordering the freshly ploughed field. Also merlin in the same hedgerow (Andy Latham) The owners of Wall Farm allow SOS members access to the hide but request that you please park on the farm drive, close to the stone wall to allow access to tractors – not on the grass verges of the narrow lane. To get to the hide walk back towards Wall Farm cottages until you come to a wicket gate on your right, the hide is through the gate down the field and along the footpath running alongside the hedgerow. Black Hill (23 October) – Great Grey Shrike still present. From the parking area take the access track towards the summit, when the path branches take the right hand track until you reach the clearfell area (via Andy Latham)

Wood Lane (22 October) – 14 Common Snipe (Paul Burgess)

Long Mynd (22 October) – Snow Bunting at 4pm on the Portway up from Duckley Nap. Then flew to land on the trail where Mott’s Road meets the Portway. In Bilbatch was a flock of c100 Fieldfares and the flock of Golden Pover (100+) is still at the location reported last Sunday (Seamus McCann)

Fenns Moss (22 October) – Hen Harrier (adult female) in the area where the peat hand cutting continues. Also 3 Stonechat and a Crossbill reported flying over the entrance near Morris’s Bridge (Howard Prince)

Whixall Moss (2 January) – Male Hen Harrier at 10.50am over Fenn’s then Whixall Moss before heading towards the floods. Willow and Marsh Tits feeding on seed put out on top of a container at the rear of Furber’s, viewable from the canal. 72 Wigeon, c50 Teal and 1 male Pintail on the floods (Howard Prince)
