This is a list of sites available on the Internet relating to birds and birding, both in Shropshire and farther afield. Shropshire Resources

  • Bridgnorth and District Naturalists’ Society – A private group supporting naturalists in the Bridgnorth area.
  • Bridgnorth and Shropshire Wildlife Group – Chat, post sightings and share pictures of wildlife in the Bridgnorth and Shropshire areas.
  • Church Stretton Branch of the SOS – For all the latest information on SOS activities in south-central Shropshire including field trips and the indoor meetings programme.
  • CJ Wildlife – This company has been a major supporter of the SOS over the years. It stocks what is probably the best selection of bird foods, feeders and associated products in Europe.
  • Cuan Wildlife Rescue – The only 24/7 Wildlife Rescue Centre, in Shropshire, dedicated to the rescue, care and rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals and birds.
  • Friends of Priorslee Lake – A blog devoted to the wildlife in and around the lake at Priorslee Lake (Telford). J
  • RSPB Shropshire Local Group.The group’s aim is to actively support the work of the RSPB in the local community, and to involve RSPB members and the wider public in the Society’s conservation, public affairs, education, fundraising and other activities. They have monthly indoor meetings with speakers throughout the year, along with monthly walks and visits to local nature reserves.
  • RSPB South Shropshire Local Group – This locally-based members group, with an emphasis on the South Shropshire area, holds indoor and outdoor meetings throughout the year covering a wide range of topics and areas.
  • Shropshire Barn Owl Group – SBOG works to increase the breeding population of Barn Owls in Shropshire by providing nestboxes in areas of suitable habitat and by working with farmers and other landowners to enhance their habitat.
  • Shropshire Community Wildlife Groups – These groups give local people a chance to find and record wildlife (both plants and animals) of all types, especially species which are in decline, so that existing populations and habitats can be conserved. They bring together people interested in wildlife, undertake survey work to establish the status of key wildlife species and their habitats, encourage and enhance local interest in wildlife, and actively promote conservation.
  • Shropshire Dragonflies – The aim of this website is to encourage all who have an interest in dragonflies to get to know them better and become involved in identifying and recording the species you see in Shropshire.
  • Shropshire Ornithology – A private group promoting ornithology in Shropshire by encouraging people to increase their knowledge and enjoyment of the county’s birds.

  • Shropshire Peregrine Group – Find out all about the peregrines of Shropshire with the latest news, photographs and background information.
  • Shropshire Swift Group – The Shropshire Swift Group works to raise awareness of Swifts across the County. It aims to halt the decline of breeding Swifts in Shropshire by continuing to survey to find numbers and distribution of breeding Swifts and by encouraging the protection and provision of nesting sites wherever possible. Any one interested in Swifts is welcome to join, and help with this work.
  • Shropshire Tourism – The definitive tourist information guide for Shropshire. This web site has the most interesting and diverting places to visit in Shropshire, the very best B&Bs, hotels and self-catering accommodation and where to find delicious Shropshire food and drink.
  • Shropshire Wildlife Trust – Information about the County Trust, with a good guide to the Nature Reserves that it manages.
  • Shropshire Women Birders – A private group whose name says it all.

  • Herefordshire Ornithological Club. HOC exists to promote the study and welfare of wild birds and their habitats and the maintenance of ornithological records for Herefordshire. 
  • Welsh Ornithological Society

    • WOS is the national body which aims to unify birdwatchers and ornithologists across the whole of Wales. To do so, we actively support bird conservation in Wales, by funding research and encouraging publication of papers and articles related to birds in Wales.
  • West Midland Bird Club – Studying Birds in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.
