Hawkstone Park (21 Dec) – 2 Woodcock were flushed whilst setting the nets mid-morning. The highlight of the day though, was undoubtedly, counting an amazing 41 Woodcock out from their woodland roosts to feed on the neighbouring farmland at dusk (Allan Heath & Shropshire Ringing Group)

Chelmarsh (21 Dec) – Ring-necked Parakeet seen briefly in flight over the Reservoir, close to clubhouse in the morning. Tawny Owl heard calling, also one seen at Eardington and 19 Partridge sp. flying away across a field at Hampton Loade just after first light (Martin Ryder)

Candles Landfill (6 Dec) – 2 ad Caspian Gulls (one with a green ring (code not read) suggesting a German/Polish border origin), 8 Yellow-legged Gulls (5 ads, 3w, 2w, 1w), 80+ GBBGulls, c1,000 Herring Gulls and 2,000+ LBBGulls. Also a presumed 1w Viking Gull (hybrid Glaucous x Herring Gull) and 2 ad hybrid Herring x LBBGulls (Tom Lowe)

Wyre Forest (6 Dec) – 2m Two-barred Crossbills still at SO748791 and coming down to drink in the stream with 15 Crossbills (John Ridley)

Venus Pool (4 Dec) –  The 4 Bewicks flew in at 4pm and a nice display by c1500 starlings before they roosted at the back of the pool (Geoff Holmes)

Whixall Moss (30 Nov) – Jack Snipe flushed from path at 3.10pm (Howard Prince) The Redpoll passage at Whixall now seems to be slowing considerably with only 2 Lesser Redpolls trapped and ringed today. Whixall Moss (1 Nov) – 8.00-9.45am: 1 female Merlin, 1 Kestrel, 1 Jack Snipe, 3 Common Snipe, 7 Ravens, 1 Green Woodpecker, c75 Lesser Redpoll in flight near Morris Bridge. A Short eared Owl has been seen recently by volunteers working on the Fenns Moss (Howard Prince)

Richard’s Castle (3 Feb)Great Grey Shrike reported at All Saints Church, SO495708. Track leading east 50m north of church. This site is north of Richards Castle in Shropshire (via Geoff Holmes)

Candles Landfill (3 Feb) – 2w Glaucous Gull in the morning. Flew off at 9.45am, then relocated at Leighton where a pale hybrid (poss Glaucous x GBb Gull) was also seen. At 10.15 the Glaucous flew west along the river, then at 2pm it was seen from the hide at VP, drifting towards Telford amongst a group of large gulls. Also Orinoco Goose at Leighton again (Andy Latham)

Coundlane (3 Feb) – adult Yellow-legged Gull (Tom Lowe)

Venus Pool (3 Feb) 2.35pm a Barnacle Goose flew in with Canadas. Towards dusk the 6 adult and 2 juvenile Bewicks and at least 2 Whooper Swans arrived. Also seen a lone Siskin feeding in alders near Fen Hide and 150+ Lapwing on the pool (Martin Ryder, Mick Wall, Helen Griffiths)

The Mere, Ellesmere (2 Feb) – 2w Glaucous Gull in the roost (Robert Dowley)

Venus Pool (2 Feb) – 2 adult White-fronted Geese flew in with Greylags at 11.20am. Also 4 Whooper Swans on arrival but these flew out at 9.15am. Also present, drake Pintail, Shelduck, 2 Goldeneye, 8 drake 2 duck Pochard, 70 Lapwing, 40+ Snipe, 60+ Linnet (Martin Ryder) The two Whitefronts flew out at c4.10pm and the 8 Bewick’s Swans (6 adults & 2 juvs) flew into the Trout Lake at 4.20pm (via Tom Lowe)

Candles Landfill (1 Feb) – 2.45pm: 3 Caspian Gulls; a yellow-ringed adult, along with another adult and the pale-billed 1st-winter (last seen 14th Jan). Also a coarsely-marked juv Iceland Gull for a few minutes. There were also an adult and 2 2nd-winter Yellow-legged Gulls (Tom Lowe)

Polemere NR (21 Jan) – drake Green-winged Teal in front of the hide. Redshank, Green Sandpiper, c16 Common Snipe, c200 Teal, c50 Wigeon, Fieldfare plus the other regulars. Highlight was 2 White-fronted Geese dropping in, initially in the field behind the paddock, then on the pool, before flying out with a few Greylag at 2.30pm (Jim Almond)
